Super Bowl XLIII—Wednesday, January 28, 2009

QUOTES FROM NFL PLAY 60 KIDS’ DAY PRESS
CONFERENCE AT THE NFL EXPERIENCE

NFL COMMISSIONER ROGER GOODELL
(on welcoming children to the event) “I’d like to thank our players who are here today. You guys are lucky because you get to see these players on the field. Today you guys get to see these guys off the field. All the things that they do on the field is something to admire. I certainly admire what they do off the field. They are great role models. They’re great people for you to admire. In particular these two guys, Derrick Brooks and Warrick Dunn. They give their heart and soul to the community and we’re proud of what they do. We thank them for their leadership.”

TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS CO-CHAIRMAN BRYAN GLAZER

(on the importance of the "Play 60" program) "I want to thank you all for coming out today to the NFL Experience, sponsored by Bank of America. We've been a proud supporter of encouraging activity among children. There are some great examples up here with Warrick Dunn and Derrick Brooks. They are both good guys, got lots of exercise, went to college, got an education and made it to the NFL. They're big stars. It is important to stay active and stay in shape. When I was young, everyday after school, my brothers and sisters and I would go outside and get a ton of exercise and had a great time. I hope you're having a great time today. Go outside and enjoy the day."

FLORIDA GOVERNOR CHARLIE CRIST
(on welcoming children to the event) "I appreciate the opportunity to say hello to some of our wonderful fellow Floridians. I want to thank Commissioner Goodell who has been an exemplary commissioner of the National Football League. He's doing a great job and this has been a successful week. We'd like to thank the commissioner, the group of NFL owners and the Glazer family for having the Super Bowl in Tampa Bay. It is a great privilege and a great honor. I also want to thank Derrick Brooks and Warrick Dunn personally. They've done so much for our community and our state. They are great leaders and great human beings. I appreciate all you do for our community. Physical fitness is a big part of all of that. Not only do we want our players physically fit, but we also want our young people to be healthy with physical activity and physical education."

TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS LINEBACKER DERRICK BROOKS

(on the importance of the "Play 60" program) "Warrick and I just want to continue to encourage you guys to support the "Play 60" program. You should remind yourself to get out everyday and play sports for at least 60 minutes a day. As the governor said, we have a big initiative in Florida to support physical education and physical fitness, but you have to do your part and make sure you get out and develop your skills. Those things keep you healthy and for the most part, keep you happy."

TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS RUNNING BACK WARRICK DUNN

(on the importance of the "Play 60" program) "I just want to encourage you guys and let you know that child obesity is the number one disease today. I'm encouraging you guys to go outside and play for 60 minutes. It doesn't matter what you play; it could be football, basketball, dodge ball or hide-and-go-seek. Just get out of the house. Don't sit in front of the computer or the internet. Florida is beautiful, so enjoy the weather and just go outside. Be a great student; listen to mom and dad and study. Be a great citizen. Eat the right things like fruits and vegetables so that you are healthy in the future. Please go outside and play for 60 minutes a day."
